What this course covers
An exploration of strategies to build environments and programs that support the sensory needs of neurodiverse clients and communication strategies to improve the efficacy of your instruction.
What you’ll learn
Learners will be able to:
1. Define neurodiversity and explain its relevance to coaching and training in the gym environment.
2. Differentiate between the medical model, the social model, and the neurodiversity approach.
3. Identify the risks of overgeneralization based off diagnosis and apply strategies to understand the diagnosis, but train the individual.
4. Demonstrate respectful practices regarding person first and identity first language.
5. Identify key client characteristics, such as communication styles or sensitivities that may influence participation in the gym environment.
