Cookie Policy

The cookies this site places, and what each one is for.

Updated September 28, 2026

This policy explains the cookies and similar technologies used on the AdaptX website (adaptx.org and the AdaptX learner portal), which is run by AdaptX Inc., a Massachusetts nonprofit. It covers what each one does, who sets it, and how you can turn off the ones that are not needed for the site to work. Our Privacy Policy explains more about the personal information we collect and your rights.

What Cookies Are

A cookie is a small text file a website asks your browser to keep, so it can recognise the same browser later. Some are set by us (first-party cookies) and some by services we use, such as Google or Stripe (third-party cookies). We also use your browser's local storage, which works in a similar way but stays on your device and is never sent to us automatically.

Cookies Needed for the Site to Work

These are always on, because the features they support cannot work without them. They are not used for advertising.

  • Sign-in (set by us, through our account provider Supabase). Keeps you signed in to your account and the learner portal, and completes the one-time sign-in link we email you. Named sb-…-auth-token. Lasts until you sign out, or for up to about a year if you do not.
  • Security check (Cloudflare Turnstile). Confirms a real person is using our sign-in, sign-up, password and contact forms, so automated programs cannot abuse them. Cloudflare may store short-lived data on its own domain, challenges.cloudflare.com.
  • Payments (Stripe). On our checkout and donation pages, Stripe sets cookies such as __stripe_mid (one year) and __stripe_sid (30 minutes) to process your payment securely and prevent fraud. See Stripe's cookie policy (opens in a new tab).
  • Newsletter sign-up (Bloomerang and Google reCAPTCHA). Our newsletter form is provided by Bloomerang, our donor database, and uses Google reCAPTCHA to block spam. reCAPTCHA sets cookies on Google's domain.

Things We Remember in Your Browser

These use local storage rather than cookies. They never leave your device unless you are signed in and choose to submit something, and you can clear them at any time in your browser's settings.

  • Whether you have already seen or closed the course announcement pop-up, so we do not show it again.
  • Whether you have turned off ad personalisation using the switch on this page.
  • In the learner portal: an unsubmitted draft of an assignment answer, the last day you visited (for attendance badges), and whether you dismissed the prompt to install the portal as an app.

Analytics Cookies

We use Google Analytics to understand how many people visit, which pages they read and how they found us, so we can improve the site. It sets _ga and _ga_V43PG4CZB3, which last up to two years. Google Analytics runs only on the public pages of adaptx.org. It never runs in the learner portal, on sign-in pages or in our staff tools, and we strip everything except campaign codes from page addresses before they are sent, so details such as email addresses in a link never reach Google. See how Google uses information from sites that use its services (opens in a new tab).

Advertising Cookies

We use Google Ads, including Google Ad Grants for nonprofits, to reach people who may be interested in our programs, courses and events. Google Ads uses cookies to:

  • measure whether an ad led to a course enrollment or a donation (conversion tracking), using cookies such as _gcl_au and _gcl_aw, which last about 90 days;
  • show our ads to people who have visited our site before, on Google Search, YouTube and other websites that show Google ads (remarketing). Third-party vendors, including Google, use cookies to show ads based on your past visits to this site and other websites;
  • limit how often you see the same ad, and prevent fraudulent clicks.

Google may set these cookies on its own domains, such as google.com and doubleclick.net. We do not receive your name or contact details from Google, and we do not sell your personal information.

Videos and Social Media Posts

Some pages show YouTube videos and Instagram posts. Videos use YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com), which does not set cookies until you press play; once you do, Google may set cookies as described in Google's Privacy Policy (opens in a new tab). Pages that show Instagram posts load them from Instagram, and Meta may set cookies when they appear. See Instagram's cookie policy (opens in a new tab).

Your Choices

Turn Off Ad Personalisation on This Site

Use the switch below to stop this site from setting advertising cookies or using your visit for remarketing, in this browser. The site keeps working exactly as before. Because the setting is stored in this browser, you will need to set it again on each device and browser you use, or after clearing your browser data.

Global Privacy Control

If your browser or an extension sends a Global Privacy Control (GPC) signal, we treat it as a request to opt out of advertising and sharing for that browser, and advertising cookies are turned off automatically. You do not need to use the switch above as well.

Visitors in Europe, the UK and Switzerland

For visitors in the European Economic Area, the United Kingdom and Switzerland, analytics and advertising cookies are off by default and are not set.

Google's Own Controls

Your Browser

Most browsers let you block or delete cookies in their settings. If you block the cookies needed for the site to work, you will not be able to sign in, buy a course or donate.

Changes to This Policy

We update this policy when the site changes how it uses cookies. The date at the top shows when it was last changed.
