Nate Nester
Director of the Falcon Fitness Center at Messiah University
Nate will share the practical side of the work: which people across campus you need to have conversations with, how to build cross-departmental partnerships, and how the physical space needs to be intentionally designed. He'll also cover how their services are structured, the sustainability of these programs (from revenue to student engagement), and how events like the Unified 5k and Next Stride clinic have benefitted the university.
Abbey Phillipson and Erik Robeznieks
University of Michigan Adaptive Sports and Fitness
Abbey and Erik will outline their path toward finding their dream careers, how they developed their coaching lens of “disability informed, not disability focused”, and scratch the surface on programming considerations for adaptive athletes and how it compares to non-disabled athletes in the same sports. Abbey and Erik will also discuss how they have helped build one of the most comprehensive university adaptive sports and fitness programs in the country at UofM.
