Accessibility Statement
The standard we work to
We build this site to WCAG 2.2, Level AA.
We assess the site against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines using automated tools and hands-on review, and we fix what we find. We treat that as ongoing work rather than a box that gets ticked once.
What we aim for
Level AA is a specific set of requirements rather than a general promise. These are the ones we hold the site to:
- Every control works from the keyboard. Nothing needs a mouse, and the focus outline is always visible.
- Text has measured contrast. At least 4.5:1 for body copy and 3:1 for large text, checked rather than eyeballed.
- Images carry real alt text. Decorative ones are hidden from screen readers instead of read aloud.
- Headings run in order. One page title, then real headings and landmarks to navigate by.
- Targets are big enough to hit. Buttons and links are at least 44 by 44 pixels.
- Forms say what they want. Every field has a visible label, and errors are described in words, never by colour alone.
- Nothing moves without a way to stop it. Anything that animates can be paused, and we honour reduced-motion settings.
- The page survives zoom and reflow. Text scales to 200% and the layout still works on a narrow screen.
How we test, and what we fix
We run automated accessibility checks across the site, then work through it by hand: navigating with the keyboard alone, listening with a screen reader, and measuring colour contrast. Automated tools catch only a fraction of the criteria on their own, so the manual pass is the part that does the real work. What those checks turn up, we remediate.
Accessibility is not a one-off. We re-check pages when we change them, and we review the site as a whole when we add a significant feature or section.
Where our control ends
Some things on this site are served by other companies: embedded video, donation and registration forms, and event ticketing. We choose providers who take accessibility seriously, but we do not control their code and cannot guarantee it meets the same standard.
